Aims of the Antique-romantic piano web site
This site is dedicated to research into the restoration and the playing of historical pianos of the classical, Romantic and post-Romantic period, with reference primarily to the research experience of Flavio Ponzi, which he has been conducting since 1989.
His research has systematically dealt with the key problems in the restoration of historical pianos, such as the obsolescence of the hammers, the sound boards and the pin blocks. As the materials produced are numerous and the research itself always open and in progress, on top of the previously published pages, in the section Restorations and experiences, many more pages will later be dedicated to research and restoration experiences and that have already been completed, along with pages relating to the new experiences being developed.
The web site also included a section dedicated to Critical, theoretical and research contributions, that is published articles and essays, concerning restoration and playing of historical pianos, whose set-up will be progressively enriched. We have considered it worthwhile inaugurating that space with a contribution by M° Piero Rattalino, whom We wish to thank warmly for the permission he has granted for the publication. That essay, La lunga marcia del pianoforte romantico, condenses very clearly and effectively the overall problems concerning this issue.
Lastly, in the section Audio and video documents original audio and video recordings by F. Ponzi and other musicians will later be made available relating to the playing of historical pianos.
Lastly, there will be a section that in future will be specifically dedicated to the Replicas of the hammers and of the mechanical parts.
